Traversing an ancient outback landscape within a private wildlife conservancy in South Australia’s Ikara-Flinders Ranges, the Arkaba Walk is an immersion in the story of the land. 600 million years of geological history echo through the stratified layers of Wilpena Pound and the Elder Range, providing spectacular backdrops throughout the 3 day / 3 night walk. The craggy sandstone bluffs and dry creek beds lined with River Red Gums are a quintessential Australian scene. You’ll traverse the basin of Wilpena Pound on day one, escorted by Arkaba’s specialist field guides whose passion is sharing their knowledge and love of the bush and connecting you with nature. The Arkaba Walk goes beyond a walking safari in a big outback Australian setting. You’ll learn about Arkaba’s transformation from a working sheep station to a thriving private wildlife conservancy, the results to be seen and heard as you walk through the landscape and meet the wildlife.

Wild Bush Luxury touches are evident throughout: the absence of having to carry your pack, the quality of three course ‘campfire’ dinners, premium South Australian wines, and quality field guides. The first two evenings are spent in bush walking camps with an indulgent dinner before retiring to your signature swag bed and the chance to sleep under the stars. The final night is spent in the comfort and civilisation of Arkaba’s charming 1850’s homestead, a five-room Luxury Lodges of Australia property. Transfers on the ex Adelaide package include a one-way flight from Adelaide to the Flinders Ranges with your return trip by scenic road transfer through the Clare Valley wine country.

Traversing the ancient Flinders Ranges and the private Arkaba Conservancy in outback South Australia, The Arkaba Walk is an experience that immerses you in the story of the land. 600-million years of geological history echo through the stratified layers of Wilpena Pound and the Elder Range, providing spectacular backdrops throughout the walk, while craggy sandstone bluffs and dry creek beds lined with River Red Gums offer a quintessential outback landscape. Large numbers of Red and Western Grey kangaroos, wallaroos and emus are regular sightings along the walk, and the country is littered with the stories, and often heroic failures, of early pioneers who tried to eke a living from the harsh but beautiful country. Arkaba’s own conservation management programs offer interested guests the chance to learn of the challenges that Australia faces in conserving its unique and diverse environment.
